But honestly, if you were going to run in it in LAN mode - I would learn how to use rsync from the command line and then find a GUI manager for rsync that looks reasonable to you. It's slightly slower (or very slow depending on the hops to their server) - but the point is that they allow 3 ways of connecting, 1 of the ways not even needing an internet connection. If you do not port forward the p2p port, then it falls back to their own tracker which acts as a conduit for you. Sync's tracker) to allow you to connect to the remote port of your self-hosted server. In the case of not being on the same LAN - the information is gathered from a central source (i.e.

If a Resilio Sync server is available on your local LAN - it doesn't even need to go to the tracker which allows the service to run without internet. But - the tracker is only used to assist. It's public - that's the point.Īlso, people were thinking this could be a single point of failure. The misunderstanding is that it was the public certificate - which is no way is ever secure. In the past, people were screaming about the certificate being available on the tracker which is hosted at Resilio Sync itself. It is a misunderstanding on how both encryption and torrent trackers actually work. The problem stems from people who post that really shouldn't. This is what I really think resilio should implement, as their solution is so terrible imo The main benefit I see with syncthing is versioning control, which makes solving sync conflicts so much easier, while also giving general version control in case you delete/overwrite stuff by accident. Their implementation for read only clients has some nice use cases, but so far I had no need for them. I have never used this and I have no need for it, but I can see that this is something people want, especially less tech savvy ones. There are also features like sharing files to someone outside of your resilio network and stuff. This is the feature I want to see syncthing implement the most (plus improving that awful mobile client in the first place).

I could just download the book I wanted to listen to on demand with the resilio client and drop the stuff I do not need anymore.

I used it to offer audiobooks to my phone for example. Partial sync is the last main benefit I see in Resilio. It is for sure a limited use case where this makes sense, but I still appreciated and used it. I also liked having the ability to build a sync network with encrypted seeders. Especially with big sync folders and clients that have not been updated in quite a while, syncthing will take a long time to be in sync.

Atleast with the stuff that I sync and my setups, I must say, that resilio was much faster in getting everything back to sync. I have switched from resilio to syncthing like a year ago. I get that it is not open source and yes, that is a negative, but that does not explain peoples stance on the software. I also have read so much negativity about resilio, without actual justification and reasons behind it.
